WHAT IS A WATER-COOLED CHILLER?

A water-cooled chiller is a cooling device that operates on the vapor compression principle, using water to cool the condenser through a cooling performance, especially suitable for large-scale production lines or centralized HVAC systems.

Compared to air-cooled chillers, water-cooled chillers require an additional cooling tower to cool the circulating water. However, this added component results in superior operational efficiency and better adaptability in harsh environments.

HOW A WATER-COOLED CHILLER WORKS

A water-cooled chiller operates in a closed-loop cycle, continuously circulating refrigerant to generate chilled water for cooling purposes.

Specifically, the refrigerant is compressed by the compressor from low-pressure vapor to high-pressure vapor. It then passes through the condenser, where heat is transferred to the cooling water (which has already been cooled via a cooling tower), significantly reducing the refrigerant’s temperature.

Finally, the refrigerant moves into the evaporator, where it absorbs heat from the circulating water and produces chilled water for cooling equipment. The refrigerant then returns to the compressor, repeating the cycle.

This system delivers stable operation, efficient cooling, and energy savings.
